Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “küçümencik sindirilebilirler”) teşhismlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine bandajlanmasıyla oluşan gücük polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız kalıntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]

Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok sayıda polipeptit ast birimi çitndırır). Ana fark peptitlerin gücük, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]

Protein sentezi sırasında her amino hamız, sair amino asite ruzuşeb, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle bandajlanır. Polipeptid dokumasına taşlıklan amino asitlerin her biri dokumaya peptid bandajlarıyla bandajlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu sırasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir su çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]

Averaj bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilindik en uzun polipeptit, ortalama 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda bulunan “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine taşlıklan amino asitlere kalıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki kalıntı, bağ yapmamış, degaje amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin sair ucundaki degaje α-karboksil grubu olan kalıntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
