Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “bayağı sindirilebilirler”) teşhismlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine rabıtalanmasıyla oluşan kısaltarak polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız lakırtııntısı ile öbürü arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” veya peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]

Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (veya çok sayıda polipeptit ast birimi çitndırır). Zemin başkalık peptitlerin kısaltarak, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]

Protein sentezi sırasında her amino hamız, sair amino asite durmadan, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle rabıtalanır. Polipeptid konstrüksiyonsına acımasızlan amino asitlerin her biri konstrüksiyonya peptid rabıtalarıyla rabıtalanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu sırasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir deniz çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]

Ortalama bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Aşina en uzun polipeptit, yaklaşık 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda mevcut “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine acımasızlan amino asitlere lakırtııntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lakırtııntı, bağ yapmamış, azade amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin sair ucundaki azade α-karboksil grubu olan lakırtııntıya C ucu adı verilir.
